The CGEGIS Tables of Benefits for July 2026 to September 2026 have been officially issued, giving Central Government employees the updated savings fund maturity figures for this quarter. The Office Memorandum was issued on 6 August 2026 by the Department of Expenditure, Ministry of Finance, under the E-V Branch.
What CGEGIS Actually Is
The Central Government Employees Group Insurance Scheme-1980 (CGEGIS) is a combined insurance-cum-savings scheme available to Central Government employees. A small amount is deducted from your salary each month, split between an insurance cover component and a savings fund component. The savings fund portion accumulates with interest over your service, and pays out as a lump sum on retirement, resignation, or to your family in case of death in service.
The "Tables of Benefits" are the reference tables that show exactly how much your accumulated savings fund is worth, based on how many months you've been subscribing and at what rate. Since these depend on interest rates that change periodically, the government reissues updated tables every quarter rather than using a single fixed table indefinitely.
The Quarter and Interest Rate Covered
This set of tables applies specifically to the period 1 July 2026 to 30 September 2026. As has been the standard practice since 1 January 2017, these tables are worked out and issued on a quarterly basis, referencing the Ministry's original OM of even number dated 17 March 2017 for the format and process.
For this quarter, the tables were calculated by IRDA (Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority) based on an interest rate of 7.1% per annum, compounded quarterly. This rate itself comes from the Department of Economic Affairs' notification — Resolution No. 5(3)-B(PD)/2023, dated 3 July 2026 — which sets the applicable interest rate for this kind of small savings-linked calculation for the quarter.
The Two Categories of Tables
Consistent with existing practice, the enclosed tables fall into two separate categories, because CGEGIS subscription rates changed over time:
Table 1 — based on a subscription of ₹10 per month from 1 January 1982 to 31 December 1989, and ₹15 per month from 1 January 1990 onwards. This is the table most current subscribers' calculations are based on, since it reflects the standard, revised contribution rate.
Table 2 — based on a subscription of ₹10 per month, specifically for employees who opted out of the revised ₹15 per month subscription rate when it came into effect from 1 January 1990. If you were already in service at that point and chose to stay on the older ₹10 rate rather than move to ₹15, your maturity value is calculated using this second table instead.
Which table applies to you depends entirely on your subscription history, not your current pay level or service category — so if you're unsure which one applies to your case, check your CGEGIS subscription records rather than assuming based on when you joined service.
A Note for Indian Audit and Accounts Department Employees
The OM specifically notes that for persons serving in the Indian Audit and Accounts Department, these orders are issued in consultation with the Comptroller and Auditor General of India, as mandated under Article 148(5) of the Constitution of India. This is a standard procedural requirement for this category of employee whenever such financial orders are issued, and doesn't indicate any different benefit structure for IA&AD staff.
Hindi Version Available
The OM confirms a Hindi version of the order is attached alongside the English version — standard practice for Central Government circulars of this kind, so employees can access the order in either language depending on preference.
Where to Find the Actual Benefit Tables
This Office Memorandum is the covering circular confirming the interest rate, the calculation basis, and the applicable quarter — the detailed rupee-value tables themselves (showing maturity value by number of months of subscription) are issued as enclosures to this OM. If you need to look up your specific maturity value, check the enclosed tables through your department's official circular distribution, your DDO (Drawing and Disbursing Officer), or the Department of Expenditure's official website, rather than relying solely on this covering memo.
What This Means for You
- If you're a CGEGIS subscriber, your savings fund maturity value for anyone retiring, resigning, or in case of death in service between 1 July 2026 and 30 September 2026 is calculated using this quarter's updated tables
- Confirm which of the two tables applies to your subscription history before checking your specific maturity figure
- The rate itself (7.1%, compounded quarterly) reflects the government's current small-savings-linked rate for this quarter — it will be revised again for the following quarter, as it has been every quarter since January 2017
- If your department hasn't circulated the detailed tables yet, this covering OM confirms they exist and are based on the confirmed rate — check with your DDO for the actual enclosure
