The benefits that make up your "hidden salary"
Beyond pay and allowances, Central Government service carries a set of schemes worth real money — and most changes to them arrive quietly through circulars. The big four are CGHS (medical), CSD (subsidised canteen and AFD purchases), LTC (leave travel), and CEA (children's education allowance).
CGHS — medical cover
The Central Government Health Scheme provides OPD and hospitalisation cover through wellness centres and empanelled hospitals, with ward entitlement and subscription linked to pay level. CSD and AFD — the canteen benefit
